On Monday, June 24, 2013, sixty golfers came together for an extraordinary experience. Sponsored by Brightspot, the golfers teed off as 12 fivesomes, each group consisting of a Special Olympics athlete, wounded armed services veteran, First Tee junior golfer, PGA professional, and Brightspot staff or partner. “The Congressional Pro Am provided a tremendous opportunity for talented golfers from all walks of life to join together for the first time. We were honored to sponsor this unique event and shine a spotlight on some wonderful individuals who don’t often get this kind of attention,” recalled David Gang, CEO of Brightspot.
Ben London, a Brightspot employee, participated in the event and echoed Gang’s comments, “Brightspot was proud to celebrate the incredible talents of all of these remarkable individuals. It was a really special event to bring together a wide array of individuals and extol the values of inclusion and appreciation.”
For 2014, Brightspot is again partnering with Special Olympics and The First Tee to invite athletes from up and down the east coast to participate in the tournament. This year will be a week-long event that kicks off with the golf tournament and includes a tour of the nation’s capital and a career fair with Brightspot and its partners. “It is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for The First Tee participants to play on the course at Congressional with PGA pros. But what they take away from the entire week will stay with them for life,” said Clint Sanchez, Executive Director, The First Tee of Greater Washington.
